Understanding

Posted by gadget4803 on February 16, 2016 at 9:00 AM

Coming out to family, friends, and neighbors isn't easy. Sometimes they won't understand who you are- which is the same person you've always been. If you are going to come out to your family and they are homophobic/transphobic then I suggest a few things.

1) Subtly dropping hints about your sexuality/ gender. (example) Leaving the TV on as they are about to enter the room when it's broadcasting a pride parade, mentioning rainbows/other pride colors a LOT, leaving the computer screen on a website that supports the LGBTQA+ community.

2) Making them more comfterable with the subject. Do this by talking about it slightly in conversation or mentiong gay/transgender celebrities around your family- showing them ideas and opinions that support the LGBTQA+ community.

Now these are just some suggestions that I have used to try and make my family more comfterable with it, however, another idea is to just tell them! Honestly if they truly love you, they will accept you for who you are!
